Apparently oblivious to the ratings decline that the second season of its Last Comic Standing series received as it limped to the end of its overprogrammed run, NBC executives have decided to waste no time in overexposing the upcoming Last Comic Standing 3.

In what it is billing as a "fine-tuning" of its Fall 2004 schedule, the network has announced that Last Comic 3 will now debut with a 90-minute "special preview" on August 30, one day before the show broadcasts its previously scheduled premiere on Tuesday, August 31.

Perhaps forgetting what happened the last time it suddenly decided to air a special "preview" episode of a new reality series the evening before its regular premiere, the special 90-minute Last Comic Standing 3 preview will air at 9:30PM ET/PT, following the 90-minute season premiere of NBC's Fear Factor.

Given that Last Comic 3 will feature head-to-head showdowns between the casts of last summer's original Last Comic Standing and this summer's just-completed Last Comic Standing 2 and therefore won't even have access to the types of open audition footage that other reality talent shows such as American Idol and Next Action Star have typically used as broadcast filler, it's unclear as to what NBC will fill 90 minutes of broadcast time with -- although an extensive clip show retrospective of the first two seasons would seem to be likely.

Last Comic Standing 3 will feature Season One finalists Geoff Brown, Rob Cantrell, Tess Drake, Tere Joyce, Cory Kahaney, Sean Kent, Ralphie May, Dave Mordal, Dat Phan, and Rich Vos versus Season Two finalists Alonzo Bodden, Ant, Todd Glass, Gary Gulman, John Heffron, Corey Holcomb, Jay London, Kathleen Madigan, Bonnie Mcfarlane, and Tammy Pescatelli.
