NBC has ordered Who Do You Think You Are, a British reality series that will show celebrities the details of their ancestral lineage, The Hollywood Reporter reported Tuesday.

"It's great storytelling, a journey of self-discovery for these celebrities and truly moving and life-changing," NBC executive Craig Plestis told The Reporter. "You often see a very different side of them."

Who Do You Think You Are -- which first premiered in 2004 on BBC1 and will air its fifth season later this year -- delves into the genealogy of U.K. celebrities and uncovers pasts that include stories of bigamy, wartime heroism and attempted murder, according to The Reporter, which added the NBC version will mostly follow the same format.

"It's about people trying to figure out a sense of identity, and we've discovered it's an emotional journey," Who Do You Think You Are creator Alex Graham told The Reporter. "Everybody has a great story. When confronted by that great story, no matter how practiced you are in front of the camera, it's very incredibly moving."

NBC's Who Do You Think You order is subject to the show's producers finding a "suitable celebrity cast," according to The Reporter.  The producers are currently researching the ancestry of several interested celebrity candidates whom the network declined to identify, according to The Reporter.

Who Do You Think You Are will be produced stateside by Graham's Wall to Wall production company in association with Lisa Kudrow and Dan Bucatinsky's Is or Isn't Entertainment.  Graham will executive produce the series along Kudrow, Bucatinsky and Don Roos.

The series represents Is or Isn't Entertainment's first major commitment in the reality realm, according to The Reporter.
