Mychael Knight, a fashion designer who had competed on Project Runway and Project Runway: All Stars, has sadly passed away at age 39.

Knight died Tuesday morning, October 17 outside of Atlanta, GA, TMZ reported, but his cause of death remains unknown.

"We are still processing the untimely death of our son, brother, friend, and uncle. Mychael meant everything to us and we loved him dearly. He was generous and so full of life. This is how we choose to remember his legacy," his family told Obvious magazine in a statement.

Knight reportedly died after recently checking himself into a hospital to receive treatment for intestinal issues.

Several months ago, Knight revealed he had been dealing with IBS -- irritable bowl syndrome -- as well as "a leaky gut," which he said can cause autoimmune diseases.

Knight was born in Germany on April 11, 1978, and divided his time between Alabama and New York throughout his childhood, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Knight studied Apparel Design and Merchandising at Georgia Southern University and graduated in 2001, shortly after which he began working as an intern at Wilbourn Exclusives and eventual stylist in the music industry.

Knight first auditioned for Season 2 of Project Runway in 2005 but did not make the cut. He therefore auditioned again the following year and was cast as one of the third-season's aspiring designers. Knight finished Project Runway in fourth place but won the "Fan Favorite" award.

Knight then went on to launch his own clothing label called Mychael Knight on BET's Rip the Runway, according to EW, and he also designed custom T-shirts for Starbucks.

In 2008, Knight launched a female and male lingerie label called Kitty and Dick, as well as a unisex fragrance named MajK. And in 2010, Knight reportedly debuted a Fall and Winter line at Charleston Fashion Week in South Carolina.

After Knight competed in a special All-Star Challenge for Project Runway in 2009, he returned to the franchise for its third All-Stars edition in 2013. Knight placed eighth overall on Project Runway: All Stars.

Knight's most recent success was his Spring and Summer 2018 collection.

Andy Cohen -- who served as an executive producer for Project Runway when the series began -- reminisced about his memories of Knight on Twitter soon after news of his death surfaced.
