Castaways, the new survival-themed reality series, featured several people finding companionship and having mixed feelings about teaming up with others during Tuesday night's episode on ABC.

Castaways is designed to test the human need for companionship, according to ABC, as 12 diverse strangers are shipwrecked on a string of deserted islands in the South Pacific without knowledge of when they will be rescued.

Among washed-up luggage, scattered resources, and abandoned structures, the castaways are lost and alone, and they must fend for themselves -- or attempt to find other participants.

Throughout each cast member's journey on the show, documentary-style footage flashes back in order to share with viewers his or her story and the struggles left behind at home.

The only way the castaways can leave the remote islands is by persevering long enough for the rescue team to arrive or by simply quitting the show.

The castaways remaining on the show are Terry Allen, a 62-year-old from Agoura, CA; Eric Brown, a 31-year-old from Glendale, CA; Sawyer Brown, a 30-year-old from Willseyville, NY; Tim Burke, a 50-year-old from Plant City, FL; Robbie Gibbons, a 42-year-old from Birmingham, AL; Reshanna Hearvy, a 24-year-old from New York, NY; Matt Jaskol, a 32-year-old from Las Vegas, NV; Krichelle Kerbow, a 25-year-old from Haiku, HI; Richard Rogers, a 35-year-old from Sequim, WA; Kenzi Whittington, a 24-year-old from Nashville, TN; and Tracee Wnetrzak, a 41-year-old from Quartz Hill, CA.

The Castaways broadcast began on Day 5 at 9:22AM.

Krichelle and Tim were wandering around in the heat looking for a fresh water source. In the beginning, Krichelle was really looking forward to going through this process alone, but her mindset changed once she found companionship.

"It’s just good to know someone else is going through what you're doing through. Being alone would be excruciating, especially when it's something like this that is so hard. It would be such a dark and lonely experience. Human connection is just key," Krichelle said.

But Eric, Tracee, Reshanna and Terry were both alone. Terry was thrilled to have found a bag that belongs to someone crazy and playful but also very organized. The bag belonged to Matt.

Matt felt he had been out there for two weeks, but it had been less than seven days. Matt, a race car driver, found it hard to sit still. Matt decided to climb up a treacherous path instead of swim to a nearby island. He called it a mistake.

Meanwhile, Kenzi and Robbie were getting along great. They read a man's journal who was clearly in love.

Kenzi wondered if the man had gotten married at first sight, and then she learned they wed after only a few months of dating. Eric was that man, and he was alone with his thoughts. He was hungry and had nothing, so he went fishing.

On Day 5 at 10:35AM, however, Krichelle and Tim found Eric, who had Krichelle’s water bottle and journal.

Footage then flashed back to Eric introducing his daughter, Gianna, to his wife, Elise. Gianna was shy and hid behind her Dad.

Krichelle and Tim swam over to Eric, but Reshanna was still fending for herself and didn't think she could swim to a nearby island where she spotted a treehouse. Reshanna had courage and faith, but she was tired of being alone.

Matt was then shown deciding to swim instead of climb. He battled sharp coral and deep waters, however, and didn't make it far with his heavy backpack. If he was going to make the trip, he may have to travel with nothing.

At 11:06AM that day, Eric showed Krichelle and Tim around his camp. They ate coconuts together, and then Krichelle revealed her family life is chaotic, stressful and insane. Growing up with six brothers, she had to yell and fight for them to hear her.

"The feeling of not being heard is really, really difficult," Krichelle said, adding that Tim and Eric talked over her when she tried to give input.

Krichelle was afraid about becoming the odd woman out. But Tim and Krichelle went off looking for more resources, leaving Eric behind. He didn't want to "intrude" and "disliked asking people for help."

As for Richard and Sawyer, they spotted a shark in the water. The guys discussed building a raft and going fishing, which didn't take long for them to achieve at 1:33PM.

"Fishing is one thing, but catching is another," said Richard, who was visibly surrounded by tuna and fish.

After footage flashed back to Richard fishing with his father, Krichelle and Tim were shown returning to their camp.

Meanwhile, Terry went exploring with no expectations or desire to find anything; she just wanted to be alone. H

owever, Terry stumbled across Reshanna. The pair hugged, and Reshanna was clearly so glad to have found a person. Reshanna brought Terry back to her camp, which she had set up quite nicely. Reshanna had a new sense of hope and comfort.

"I definitely think people need other people to survive. We can motivate each other one day at a time," Reshanna said.

On Day 6 at 8:06AM, Krichelle tested her luck spear-fishing. She had to be so careful because of the sharp coral, but she came back with sea urchins.

Meanwhile, Matt admitted he had made "stupid" decisions and needed a gameplan. He also found a bag of somebody's who hadn't prepared well. He was very proud of his bag and hoped people were thriving with it, and Terry and Reshanna found it.

Terry wore a necklace Matt had packed filled with ashes from his deceased good friend who had been the definition of life. Matt had the determination to continue on just so he could meet the person who had his bag.

As for Krichelle, it was emotionally difficult to survive with two men who had clicked instantly. She could feel herself becoming the butt end of their jokes, and if the situation worsened, she would leave and find something different.

At 9:15AM, Eric attempted to make fire but failed. He missed his wife terribly, and footage flashed back to his daughter Gianna crying at his house and asking for her mother.

When Eric failed to climb a tree to retrieve coconuts for himself and his new friends, he simply chopping the tree down. Eric then took off in a canoe, and viewers saw footage of Eric, Gianna and his wife playing at the park and having a blast.

The episode concluded with Eric arriving at Krichelle and Tim's camp, and Krichelle saying they had to enter "heavy rations mode." She somewhat sarcastically called themselves "the three musketeers."
