America Ferrera picked up the trophy for best lead actress in a comedy at the 59th annual Emmy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles Sunday night.

The "Ugly Betty" star beat out fellow nominees Tina Fey from "30 Rock," Felicity Huffman from "Desperate Housewives," Julia Louis-Dreyfus from "The New Adventures of Old Christine" and Mary Louise-Parker from "Weeds."
"It is truly an amazing, wonderful thing that happens when your dreams come true," Ferrera said. "I just wish that for everybody that they get to do what inspires them and inspires them to make a change in the world."
