A young buck apparently looking for a mate wandered into two trendy clothing stores in Washington's Georgetown neighborhood.
About 90 minutes after the deer first appeared in Diesel, police tranquilized it inside a Ralph Lauren shop and hauled it away as bystanders chanted "Free Bambi," the Washington Post reported.
Experts say the deer probably came from Rock Creek Park, where the deer population has been growing fast. Deer in the park are currently in their mating season, and bucks sometimes range far in their search.
Animal control officers planned to release the deer back in the park.
Some people who followed the animal's progress said the deer attracted more attention than actress Nicole Kidman, who had been in Georgetown earlier in the day filming a movie.
