The birth of Britney Spears' son this week in Los Angeles was the result of a treatment for a pre-existing medical condition the singer was suffering from.

In Touch Weekly reported that the 24-year-old pop singer had been suffering from preeclampsia, a high blood pressure-based condition, and the only way for doctors at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to treat the condition was to deliver Spears' second son via Caesarian-section on Tuesday.
"The delivery was not planned," a source close to Spears said. "It became urgent. Britney and Kevin did not want to take any chances."
While the singer had planned on delivering her son through a C-section later this month, she and her husband, 28-year-old rapper Kevin Federline, welcomed a 6-pound, 11-ounce baby boy early Tuesday and both mother and child are now healthy.
"She had a bad case and it became dangerous," the source told In Touch Weekly, "but mother and baby are doing well."
