"Kate is working her fingers to the bone to support her large family and wishes Jon would do the same," a friend of Kate's told AOL's Pop Eater website in a Thursday report.
Kate has had no problem finding work on television in recent months, as she competed onDancing with the Stars' tenth season and is currently working on two new TLC projects -- including Kate Plus 8, a series of specials that follows her family life without Jon and premiered Sunday night.
"After the split, Jon thought he would become a bigger star without Kate. He hooked up with Michael Lohan to develop a new reality show, [Divorced Dads Club], but that didn't work out," an insider told Pop Eater.
"Then Jon thought he would become the next high-end designer when he hooked up with Ed Hardy designer Christian Audigier, but that fell apart too."
Jon, who currently pays $21,700 of monthly child support to Kate, was recently reported to be on the job hunt so he could "provide for his family."
