Daily Variety said the TV producer has purchased the rights to Irish author Michael Scott's upcoming "The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel" series with the hopes of turning the six-part series into a feature film.

The first book of the series, "The Alchemyst," will not be released by Random House until May but Burnett said his sneak preview of the novel presented him with the perfect material for a feature film.

"It takes one of these fantasy ideas and puts it in today's world," Burnett said of the volume. "It's very accessible."

The book series follows Flamel, who has been mentioned in J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" novels, as a 600-year-old man who aids a pair of teenage fraternal twins battle evil. It was Flamel's sorcerer's stone that was at the center of the first Harry Potter book.

Burnett is reportedly prepared to meet with Hollywood studios within the next month to discuss possible film adaptations with him as producer, said Daily Variety.
