Online sperm provider finds way to sidestep British donor law

UPI News Service, 03/29/2005

An Internet company is defrosting sperm it ships to customers to avoid complying with a new British law to identify donors of frozen semen, Sky News reported.

The English law, which goes into effect April 1, will allow children born from donated sperm or an egg to know the donor's identity when they reach the age of 18.

Since the law applies only to frozen sperm, women-only Web site ManNotIncluded launched a new service that defrosts sperm and keeps the donor anonymous.

The company sends the sperm and instructions directly to customers.

England's Human Fertility and Embryology Authority sought urgent legal advice and officials worry about the safety and potential for interbreeding in keeping sperm donors anonymous, the report said.

Founder John Gonzalez said ManNotInclude's sperm is safe and world-class.
