Green Day's 'American Idiot' tops the Billboard 200 chart

UPI News Service, 01/12/2005

Green Day's "American Idiot" topped the Billboard 200 chart Wednesday on total U.S. sales of just over 100,000 albums.

Eminem's "Encore" fell to No. 2 and Lil Jon & the East Side Boyz' "Crunk Juice" took third place, ahead of No. 4 John Legend, whose "Get Lifted" was fourth in Nielsen SoundScan figures, Billboard said.

"Red Light District" by Ludacris stayed in fifth place, while Destiny's Child's "Destiny Fulfilled" rose to No. 6, barely ahead of Shania Twain's Mercury Nashville greatest hits set.

"MTV Ultimate Mash-Ups Presents Jay-Z and Linkin Park: Collision Course" fell to eighth and Usher's "Confessions" slipped to No. 9.

Kelly Clarkson's "Breakaway" rounded out the top 10 on sales of 67,000, a 31 percent drop from the previous week.
