Destiny's Child insists breakup announcement not a gimmick

UPI News Service, 07/27/2005

Destiny's Child says the announcement that trio was going to quit recording was not a gimmick to sell CDs and concert tickets.

The trio announced in June that it would disband after its current "Destiny Fulfilled ... And Loving It" tour, and member Kelly Rowland says that is still the case and it wasn't a ploy to sell more tickets and CDs.

"It is goodbye," Rowland says. "We're just closing a chapter in our book. We've been doing this since we were 14 and 15 years old. So what everybody has to realize is that we're 24 and 25 now, and it's different goals between all of us, personal goals that we would like to do."

Rowland, Beyonce Knowles and Michelle Williams will pursue various music and acting options in the future. Knowles has already signed on to a remake of "The Pink Panther" with Steve Martin.

Destiny's Child's tour wraps up Sept. 10 in Vancouver, British Columbia. The group plans to release a greatest hits album and a concert DVD this year.
