'American Idol' continues setting ratings records with Tuesday broadcast

Another week, another record ratings performance from the third season of FOX's American Idol.
FOX's Tuesday, February 3 Idol broadcast, featuring 117 regional finalists vying for one of 32 semi-finalist spots in the contest, drew an enormous 30.1 million viewers and a 13.1 rating/33 share in the Adults 18-49 demographic, according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research.
With the rest of the Big 4 networks in full "get out of the way" mode and airing repeats versus the FOX juggernaut, surprisingly, it was CBS' encore broadcast of its post-Super Bowl premiere of another reality show -- Survivor: All-Stars -- that managed to perform best versus Idol, drawing 8.9 million viewers and a 3.0/8 rating/share for second place in the 8-9 PM ET/PT hour. ABC's repeat According To Jim and I'm With Her placed third, while Whoopi and Happy Family didn't give NBC any reason for jubilation with their fourth place finishes.
Between Idol and the Survivor repeat, 39 million viewers were watching reality programming in the 8-9 PM ET/PT hour.
