Diane Sawyer and Charles Gibson of "Good Morning America" will keep Bob Woodruff's chair warm at ABC's "World News Tonight" until he is well enough to return.

The popular morning anchors will take turns co-anchoring with Elizabeth Vargas while Woodruff recovers from serious injuries suffered in a bombing attack in Iraq Sunday, Daily Variety reported Wednesday.

Woodruff and ABC cameraman Doug Vogt are being treated at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md.

The extent of Woodruff's injuries has not been publicly revealed, but sources have said his recovery could take several months.

ABC said Wednesday Woodruff was slowly being brought out of sedation and would be weaned off a breathing tube in the coming days.

His brother, David Woodruff, said he was coming out of "a really bad place" but showing signs of improvement.

Vogt, meanwhile, was reported to be awake and talking.
