America's Next Top Model 7 - Episode 5 Summary

'Freak Show Runway' By Belinda Trotter-James
Original Airdate: October 11, 2006

If you are the type that loves to be put on a pedestal, then Top Model is the place to be, but first… Has justice been served with Monique out of the house?  Is Melrose the self proclaimed modeling expert?  Why do pretty girls feel ugly?  Which stunt leaves the girls looking like deformed pretzels?  How many commercial plugs do you think will show up in this week’s episode?  Read on for all the juicy details…

In the opening scene the girls were celebrating throughout the house because wicked witch Monique is eliminated.  The air smells and feels so much better without her terrorizing everyone.  Megg says, “I just want to rock and roll and have a good time.  Megg better concentrate on getting great photos and have a good time after the competition is over.  Meanwhile, Jaeda was in the confession booth revealing her revelation that modeling is hard.  “I knew modeling was hard work, but I did not think it was this hard.”  What is hard about getting your hair cut and projecting the face of a model through the camera?  Oh I guess Jaeda cannot hide behind her beauty anymore because it’s hard work having short hair.  Jaeda also reveals to the girls that people have a hard time trying to figure out if she is a pretty boy or an ugly girl.  Oh brother… give me a break.  I hope she sees how stupid she sounds when she views the show.

What do you think about this week's Top Model episode?

Talk about it on Reality TV World's Top Model message boards.

Since Monique is out the house, it seems that Melrose has taken over wicked stick and has made Anchal her target.  A few of the girls had an unauthorized hot tub meeting and the topic of discussion was Anchal’s insecurity. Of course our resident expert model, Melrose leads the conversation.  Jaeda had the nerve to say, “Anchal knows she is pretty.  She is just being fake.”  Oh look who is talking.  She may be mad that no one is calling her pretty anymore.  Jaeda does not want to hear that she has strong bone structure.  One would think you are talking about a man.  What the girls did not know was that Anchal was in another part of the house and heard the entire conversation.  She was so upset and hurt knowing that the girls hate her because she is so beautiful.  However, the girls are too young and silly to understand that what Anchal sees in the mirror and what they see are two different things.  What Anchal needs to understand is that when people talk about you behind your back, it’s a sign that a blessing is coming and the talk is supposed to make you stronger.  It’s just a test and this is a competition not a friend fest.  Anyway, enough about the house, let me ask Dalia if she saw our reigning winner, Danielle’s latest Cover Girl commercial?

“Yes, I did and I have only one question… When are they going to get a new promotion for the girls?  Every year the winners always throw out the first ball at an Oreo’s baseball game.  I’m a sports fan so I definitely noticed that it’s the same team.”

You may have a point, Dalia.  Now back to the show… Later that evening the girls had dinner with the icon of supermodels, Twiggy.  She spoke to the girls about posing and developing their own unique style.  Little did the girls realize that the next challenge would be on how well they can pose in unique ways. Guest judge from Canada’s Next Top Model spoke to the girls and introduced a man that guided the girls through unique posing with their bodies.  It was more like a yoga class than a model’s posing class.  The girls definitely needed the practice because the next challenge was to pose in a fashion show for Designer Bao.  The girls were not to walk but stand on a pedestal and strike a pose and hold it as many times as possible.  Jaeda had a beautiful outfit and big hair.  Now why did top model cut her hair only to add some more on for a shoot?  It is so stupid to cut a model’s hair for one show only to go to the next show to have the hairstylist add hair.  Tyra told Jaeda she wanted to see her with short hair because she had the bone structure to pull it off.  Oh Hog Wash… They needed someone to cry on the show again this season because they don’t want their hair cut.  The show just would not be the same without someone crying about a hair cut.  In the end Eugena won for having the best poses.  Her prize was $32,000 in jewelry.

The next challenge transformed the girls in to the freaks of the freak show.  Atoosa Rubenstein, Editor-in-Chief of Seventeen magazine was on the set to see the girls in action and to tell them that the winner would ultimately be on the cover for seventeen magazine.  I thought the girl who did the best at this shoot would be on the cover and that’s why Atoosa showed up at the shoot.  However, a winner was not named so I guess this was a plug for Seventeen.  The worse girl at the shoot had to be Megg.  She was the bearded woman and did a horrible job.  Mr. Jay spent so much time directing Jaeda that there was less time to get the best shot possible and even the editor was a little annoyed at giving a model so much direction.  “Do your job as a model,” commented Ms. Rubenstein.  The three that hit it out of the ball park was AJ, Melrose and Caridee.  Tyra commented that Caridee needed to let the light catch her face in the photo.  Excuse me but, isn’t that the photographer’s job to make sure the model’s face is well lit or was it Mr. Jay’s job?

After the judges reviewed all the photos, Megg and once again, Jaeda were in the bottom two.  Megg cannot seem to allow her personality to be transferred into a photo and Jaeda is letting a hair cut hold her back from delivering incredible photos.  Ultimately, Tyra sent Megg packing.  Let me ask Dalia for a final perspective of the show.

“This episode went too quick for me.  They had too many plugs, (I mean) guest appearances for me.  The guest judge of Canada’s top model show was there for what? Seventeen’s Editor was there for what purpose?  Did they plug the name of the freak show too, I can’t remember.  The freak show seemed like a really fun shoot, but I would have liked to see more.  Jaeda better get it together.  To be in the bottom two again must be devastating.  Maybe she can look at some photos of Halle Berry when her hair was short to get some type of inspiration.  If she can get past the new shorter look, her chances will be much greater to win.”
