It was not disclosed why Stewart's release, which was expected Aug. 10, was extended to Aug. 31, the White Plains (N.Y.) Journal News reported Thursday.

But The New York Post reported Sunday probation officials were looking into its report that Stewart had been riding around her Bedford, N.Y., estate in an off-road vehicle and had gone to yoga class nearby.

Stewart also made at least two personal appearances at recent Bedford Planning Board meetings to argue unsuccessfully for a permit to build a new 4,700-square-foot barn.

It was not clear whether showing up at at the municipal meeting falls under the terms of her confinement, which allows Stewart to leave home 48 hours a week to work, shop, attend religious services and go to the doctor.

Stewart turned 64 Wednesday.
