Wejebe was believed to be piloting a single-engine plane that crashed in flames moments after takeoff from Everglades Airpark Friday afternoon.

The South Florida Sun Sentinel said the identity of the pilot was not officially released, however Wejebe was the registered owner of the kit plan and only one body was recovered from the charred wreckage.

The Cuban-born Wejebe built his career as a charter-boat skipper out of Miami and debuted "Spanish Fly" on ESPN in 1995. The Sun Sentinel said Wejebe's laid-back style and polished angling made the show popular with both viewers and fishing-industry sponsors.
