The half hour show will be produced by Abrams' company, Bad Robot, and World of Wonder, the producers behind "RuPaul's Drag Race," and RuPaul himself.

It will be written by Gary Lennon ("Power" and "Orange Is The New Black") and be set in New York City in the 1980s.

RuPaul is the host of the long-running competition series "RuPaul's Drag Race" which recently made the move from Logo to VH1.

He won the Emmy for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program in 2016.

"Earlier this year I was quoted saying I'd rather have an enema than an Emmy," he said during his speech. "But thanks to the Television Academy, I can have both!"

The 56-year-old television personality secretly wed his partner of 23 years Georges LeBar in January.
