In case there was any confusion about why Mikayla Matthews is leaving The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, she has confirmed that it's because Taylor Frankie Paul is continuing to do the show.

"To make things more clear and shut down any assumptions... the only reason I'm leaving the show is because I was told a certain person was coming back... because it's unethical and kids are involved," Mikayla, 26, wrote in a post via Instagram Stories on Tuesday, September 15, Us Weekly reported.

"I'm being put in an unfair position because of the things I've seen and heard that I don't agree with. I filmed [Season] 6 cause that person was not there. Then we were told she was coming back."

Hulu halted production on Season 5 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives in March amid Taylor's ongoing legal and custody dispute with her ex-boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen, with whom she shares son Ever True, 2.

At the time, Taylor and Dakota had made dueling allegations of domestic violence and also filed restraining orders against each other.

Sources had also told People that several Mormon Wives cast members wanted nothing to do with Taylor and refused to work with her.

That same month, a 2023 video of Taylor assaulting Dakota leaked online and prompted ABC to cancel Taylor's The Bachelorette season.

When Mormon Wives resumed filming its fifth season this past spring, Taylor's involvement was limited and she was only asked back to the intro credits.

However, Mormon Wives has been renewed for sixth and seventh seasons, according to Us, and Taylor revealed earlier this week on Instagram that her role on the show will continue because she wants to share her truth and hopefully help people in similar situations.

Mikayla -- who's been a regular on the show since Season 1 -- announced her exit from The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives on Monday, September 14.

Mikayla explained on Instagram in part, "I've said from the beginning of this that I'm not comfortable being a part of something that continues to platform behavior I don't agree especially given my own experience growing up in a home with multiple forms of abuse."

Mikayla, clearly referring to Taylor, elaborated, "There's no amount of money worth going against my morals or changing the stance I've had since I first saw and heard the things that made me feel this strongly."

Mikayla admitted that making a profit from this behavior feels "wrong and unethical" to her, and she added, "It feels like a disservice to the children, everyone's healing and the millions of people watching."

Mikayla told her followers that she's done "enabling" toxic behavior.

"Supporting an ADULT doesn't mean constantly making excuses for toxic behavior while giving unconditional sympathy and grace with zero accountability or change," Mikayla said.

Shortly after Mikayla spoke her truth, Mormon Wives stars Layla Taylor and Mayci Neeley both hinted they may be leaving the show as well.

A fan asked Mayci in one of her TikTok comments if she's "staying on the show," and Mayci replied, "I am finishing this current [sixth] season that we are filming and then not sure for after that."

Mayci subsequently posted a lengthy TikTok video complaining about how she had filmed Season 4 and Season 5 scenes that were ultimately cut from the Hulu reality series.

"At the end of the day I don't care about having 'aura,' I care about providing for my family and being a good wife/ mother. Period," she explained.

And Layla, for her part, admitted via Instagram Stories, "It's such an impossible situation for everyone involved, but I am finishing season 6 and then [to be determined]."

There has been tension amongst The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives cast for months. Taylor recently apologized for belittling her co-stars' success and achievements.
