Having failed to "work things out," former 'N Sync member Lance Bass has announced that he and The Amazing Race 4 co-winner Reichen Lehmkuhl have ended their relationship and split for good.

"We broke-up last week," Bass told People.com in a story published on Monday.  "But we're really good friends.  Nothing bad at all -- nothing bad at all to say."

Last July, the 27-year-old Bass ended years of public denials that he was gay by "coming out" of the closet, and at the same time put an end to months of media speculation about the nature of his close relationship with the openly gay Lehmkuhl by disclosing that he was in a relationship with the 32-year-old The Amazing Race 4 co-winner. According to Bass, the pair first met when Lehmkuhl served as Bass' real estate agent.

"I'm more liberated and happy than I've been my whole life," Bass told People magazine at the time. "I'm just happy."

The couple then began to make countless joint public appearances together, but rumors the relationship was in trouble first began to emerge in August, despite Bass' denial of them. "We are very happy," Bass told People at the time.

In early December, the couple announced that they were splitting, though trying to work on their relationship. "We remain the best of friends," they told People in a statement on December 4. "Please respect our privacy as we try to work things out during this difficult time."

Apparently the issues between them could not be worked out, leading to Bass making the split official on Monday.
