The City is no more.

MTV has confirmed that it has canceled the Whitney Port reality series.

"The City will not be returning to MTV for season three," a spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter on Monday.  "Whitney has been a part of our family for many years and we wish her and the cast the best, and hope to collaborate with them again."

MTV confirmed The Hills spinoff's fate hours after Port told Ryan Seacrest that the show -- which had premiered in December 2008 and followed the former The Hills star as she left Los Angeles and began a new life in New York City -- appeared unlikely to return for a third season.

"As of right now it doesn't really look like we're doing it anymore," Port told Seacrest during a morning appearance on his On-Air with Ryan Seacrest syndicated radio show.

"Why is it ending?  Is it going to another network other than MTV?" Seacrest asked.

"No, at this point it's not.  I'm working on some other things," Port replied.  "But it's okay -- when one door closes and another opens."

Monday's comments also came four months after Port and MTV had both denied rumors that The City -- which was still completing the broadcast of its second season at the time -- was being canceled.
