Mattel has announced the former The City star will serve as the host of Genuine Ken: The Search for the Great American Boyfriend, a new Barbie-branded online reality competition that will seek to find America's best boyfriend.

Genuine Ken will run for eight episodes and premiere on Hulu on Tuesday, January 18.  Each episode will be 22 minutes.

The show will feature eight guys ages 21-30 competing to prove they have the qualities of the "ultimate boyfriend for every occassion" in elimination challenges such as surfing, a talent show and a fashion challenge -- judged by a line-up of celebrity guest judges.

Hudsun Media will produce Genuine Ken, which will film in Los Angeles and New York. The producers apparently plan to use social networks as the driving force of the show's success, distributing the series through channels such as Facebook and YouTube.

"What we are doing with Mattel and Genuine Ken is a complete game changer -- We have created a wildly compelling, network-quality reality show that, for the first time, can be distributed directly to the viewer in a non-traditional but very effective way," Michael Rourke, CEO of Hudsun Media said.

"It's inspiring to work with such an amazing brand like Barbie and Ken where the possibilities for compelling entertainment are endless."

Port and MTV confirmed The City's cancellation last week.
