The American Idol fifth-season runner-up will co-star in the psychological drama The Storyteller, The Hollywood Reporter reported Monday.

The recently wed 24-year-old will co-star in the independent film alongside American Beauty actor Wes Bentley and Journey to the Center of the Earth actress Anita Briem, with Robert Angelo Masciantonio serving as director for Feverpitch Pictures.  Filming is scheduled to commence in August.

The Storyteller will follow a writer -- played by Bentley -- who goes on a "downward spiral" after the detah of his father, according to The Reporter.  McPhee will play the writer's assistant who begins to investiage whether his muse -- played by Briem -- is real or imaginary.

The Storyteller is being produced by Feverpitch's Jeffrey Erb, along with Jason Loftus and Patrick McDade. Feverpitch's Joe Nicolo is executive producing. An August shoot is planned.

Last summer, McPhee was cast for the The Last Caller, a dark romantic comedy that was scheduled to begin filming in and around New York last fall in which she would play a self-obsessed woman in-search of love and the hope of finding herself in the coming-of-age independent film. In addition, McPhee was also scheduled to film Success -- another independent film -- last fall.

She finished production of The House Bunny -- formerly known as I Know What Boys Like -- last fall.  The comedy, produced by Adam Sandler's Happy Madison Productions, co-stars Scary Movie actress Anna Faris.  It is scheduled to premiere this August.

McPhee parted ways with Sony BMG's RCA Records earlier this year.
