The American Idol judge, who's newly single after dumping ex-boyfriend Casper Smart, has been spending time with Chmerkovskiy as of recently, leaving people to speculate they may be dating, People reported.

"[Maks] danced with her at the [American Music Awards last November] and they kept in touch," a friend of the "I Luh Ya Papi" singer told People.

"I think they could [become a couple soon]. Who knows what will happen?"

Lopez, 44, reportedly met the Dancing with the Stars pro, 34, through her best friend Leah Remini, who had been paired with fellow pro dancer Tony Dovolani for the reality dancing competition's seventeenth season.

However, Lopez and Chmerkovskiy reportedly aren't trying to rush into anything, especially since they have such busy schedules. Lopez is currently promoting her tenth and latest studio album A.K.A., which gets released June 17.

"They are friends and have been talking," another source told the magazine.

Lopez reportedly attended Chmerkovskiy's brother Val's 28th birthday party in late March at The Redbury Hotel in Los Angeles.

Representatives for both Lopez and Chmerkovskiy declined comment.

Lopez split from Smart, a 27-year-old backup dancer-turned choreographer, in an "amicable process that started a few months ago," according to an Us Weekly insider.

Chmerkovskiy has apparently been single since his last relationship with Sports Illustrated supermodel Kate Upton ended in December although reports have circulated for weeks he's romantically involved with eighteenth-season Dancing with the Stars partner Meryl Davis. Chmerkovskiy and Davis, who won the season together, have both denied the dating rumors.

It has yet to be confirmed whether Lopez and Chmerkovskiy will return to their respective reality shows. Chmerkovskiy has recently suggested he might like to serve as a Dancing with the Stars judge going forward, while Lopez is expected to sit on Idol's judging panel again with Harry Connick Jr. and Keith Urban for Season 14.
