Marshall died at age 41 in his sleep at a hotel near his tattoo shop Roselle Tattoo Company this past weekend, TMZ reported.

The tattoo artist's death is still under investigation, but authorities told his wife Johanna the news of his death on Sunday.

Marshall reportedly stayed in a hotel near Chicago Saturday night after telling Johanna he wasn't feeling well and preferred not to drive home from his shop. Johanna grew worried because Marshall failed to return any of her phone calls the next day.

Marshall and Johanna have three young children together.

Marshall won Season 4 of Ink Master when the series aired on Spike TV in May 2014 and he walked away with the $100,000 grand prize.

The sixth season of Ink Master premiered in June 2015 and its seventh edition will debut next year.
