Big Brother's houseguests evicted Cliff Hogg from the Big Brother house only to see him win the season's "Camp Comeback" competition and return to the game minutes later during Thursday night's live Season 21 broadcast on CBS.

Cliff, a 53-year-old petroleum engineer from Houston, TX, was evicted from the Big Brother house via a 6-4 vote over Nicole Anthony, a 24-year-old preschool aide from Long Island, NY.

Cliff and Nicole had been nominated for eviction by Nick Maccarone, the week's Head of Household.

Nick, a 27-year-old therapist from Sewell, NJ, had originally nominated Jessica Milagros for eviction alongside Cliff.

However Kathryn Dunn won the subsequent Power of Veto competition and decided to use the PoV to remove Jessica from the Big Brother chopping block, resulting in Nick naming Nicole as a replacement nominee.

Nick had expected Nicole to be voted off by the other members of his eight-person Gr8tful alliance that was in control of the house.

Nick had decided to target Nicole for eviction after she attempted to warn Nick and Isabella "Bella" Wang, Nick's showmance partner and closest ally in the house, that the other members of their Gr8tful alliance had been trying to turn her against Nick and Bella and had planned to target them for eviction if Nick hadn't won the week's HoH competition.

But rather than believing Nicole -- who was being truthful about Gr8tful's plans -- Nick and Bella told the rest of the Gr8tful alliance about Nicole's claims.  And after they convinced Nick and Bella that Nicole was lying, the alliance decided Nicole needed to be evicted instead.

"The funny thing is, I literally told Nicole that I would not put her up this week. And she went and spread lies and defamed my character -- so guess what, she's going home this week," Nick boasted in the Diary Room.

However, after Nick nominated Nicole as a replacement nominee, the rest of Gr8tful decided that keeping Nicole around to allow her to seek revenge on Nick and Bella would be better for their own game.

Instead, the six Gr8tful allies -- Analyse Talvera, Holly Allen, Jack Matthews, Jackson Michie, Christie Murphy, and Tommy Bracco -- decided they would vote off Cliff during the eviction vote.

And that's exactly what happened when the live vote occurred on Thursday night's Big Brother broadcast -- leaving Bella, Jessica, Kathryn, and Sam Smith as the only four houseguests voting for Nicole.

Nick appeared visibly surprised at the announcement of Cliff's eviction, but he remained silent.

After Big Brother host Julie Chen announced Cliff's eviction, Cliff competed in the "Camp Comeback" competition that would allow Cliff or one of Season 21's three previously evicted houseguests to return to the game and once again be eligible to win the season's $500,000 grand prize.

Dubbed "Path to Redemption," the competition gave the four participants -- Cliff, David Alexander, Kemi Faknule, and Ovi Kabir -- three minutes to roll balls down a winding adjustable pathway and into a hole.

The first houseguest to sink six balls in the hole would win, or if no one sank six balls within the three minutes then the winner would be whoever sank the most balls during the time period.

Cliff quickly sank two balls in the first 40 seconds, and then two more balls in the next 40 seconds, leaving him with four balls done before any of the three other houseguests had even sunk a single ball.

He then quickly finished off his fifth and sixth ball within the next minute -- resulting in him winning the competition with 54 seconds remaining on competition clock.

"Congratulations to Cliff!  Well-done!" Julie announced.

"Big congratulations to you Cliff, you are officially back in the game!  David, Ovi and Kemi, I'm sorry, but your time in the Big Brother house has come to an official end."

Big Brother's next Season 21 episode will air Sunday, July 21 at 8PM ET/Pt on CBS.
