Celebrity Diving will feature celebrities competing in a diving competition in front of a live audience. Each week, stars will perform dives, such as backflips and somersaults, from various heights that will increase in difficulty as the season progresses in the hopes of impressing a panel of judges and home viewers.

Similar to Dancing with the Stars, a professional diving instructor will give each celebrity several weeks of training prior to the start of the competition.

Celebrity Diving will feature a three-person judging panel. While the third member of the panel has yet to be revealed, two of the judges will be legendary diver and four-time Olympic gold medalist Greg Louganis, and David Boudia, who won the gold medal for diving at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

"There is nothing more gratifying to an elite athlete than to see his or her sport excite audiences and resonate with fans. Diving is one of those unique disciplines requiring fitness, physical strength, precision and artistry. I am thrilled to be part of bringing the sport that I love to a large TV audience -- which won't have to wait until Rio 2016 to see some pretty incredible diving!" Louganis said in a statement.

Celebrity Diving is based on Celebrity Splash, a Dutch show which debuted this past summer and broke ratings records in the Netherlands.

ABC announced the new series' pickup in early October.

Celebrity Diving is being executive produced by JD Roth, Todd A. Nelson and Brant Pinvidic.
