Toyota pulls its advertising from FX Network's 'Nip/Tuck' drama

UPI News Service, 11/11/2005

Toyota has apparently bowed to pressure from the Parents Television Council and pulled its advertising from FX TV's "Nip/Tuck."

The PTC announced the decision on its Web site, calling the cable series about a pair of plastic surgeons "one of the most sexually explicit, profane, and violent television programs in the history of American television," E! Online reported Friday.

"Toyota's letter indicated that while Toyota seeks out 'edgier' programming to reach a younger demographic, a review of the content on 'Nip/Tuck' led them to pull out of remaining episodes. The PTC applauds Toyota for this responsible decision," the Web site said.

Toyota spokeswoman Nancy Hubbell told The Los Angeles Times the pullout was part of a broader re-evaluation of the carmaker's advertising strategy, but admitted the show's content was a factor in the decision.

FX refused to directly comment on Toyota, but spokesman John Solberg told the Times "the show is sold out for the season at one of the highest advertiser rates in all of cable."
