Tamyra Gray to guest-star on FOX's April 15 'Tru Calling'

By Reality TV World staff, 04/12/2004

FOX has announced that Tamyra Gray, who was a finalist in the first season of American Idol, will guest-star in the "Death Becomes Her" episode of the network's Tru Calling series on Thursday, April 15 at 8-9PM ET/PT.

In the episode, Tamyra plays Carly Anders, an actress who befriends Tru (series star Eliza Dushku) when she visits the morgue to research her next movie role as a forensic attendant. But when Carly's car goes off a bridge and sends her plummeting to her death, Tru's day restarts. As she pries into the private details of Carly's life to find out who is targeting her, Tru makes a shocking discovery about Carly's past.

This isn't Tamyra's first foray into acting -- or even her first guest-starring appearance on a FOX series. In 2003, Tamyra appeared on seven episodes of the network's Boston Public series. Tamyra played a character named Aisha during her Boston Public appearances, a shy girl with an amazing, powerful voice who was discovered by music teacher Marylin Sudor. With Marylin's mentoring, Aisha won the lead in the school musical, but her life became complicated when her controlling and abusive boyfriend became jealous of her newfound popularity.

Similar to her appearance on last week's American Idol results show, the appearance is intended to promote interest in Tamyra's upcoming debut album, "The Dreamer," which will be released in early June. Tamyra is represented by Idol creator Simon Fuller's 19 Entertainment, which signed the talented and popular former Idol finalist despite her early elimination from the first edition of the competition.
