Snooki to drop from New Year's Eve ball in Jersey, not Times Square

By Elizabeth Kwiatkowski, 12/30/2010

Snooki Polizzi apparently won't be ringing in the new year in New York City's Times Square after all.

Instead of being dropped inside a ball in Times Square on New Year's Eve as MTV announced earlier this month, Jersey Shore star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi will now be dropped in a more familiar locale, TMZ reported Wednesday: the Jersey Shore.

MTV has not commented on the change of plans, according to Entertainment Weekly, but the co-producers of Time Square's New Year's Eve event have confirmed they've denied the network's request to lower a giant see-through ball containing Polizzi from a tower at midnight.

"It was never intended or requested for Snooki to be in the actual New Year's Eve Ball in Times Square. The request to have her in a separate ball on a set-back roof came too late and was too impractical to fit in to our outdoor events," the co-producers said in a statement.

According to TMZ, workers began assembling the big ball -- which will feature a light-up "Snooki" sign -- and its drop tower in Seaside Heights, NJ near the house featured on Jersey Shore's first and third seasons on Wednesday.

The third season of Jersey Shore will premiere on MTV on Thursday, January 6 at 10PM ET/PT.
