Two California women, a teacher and a paralegal, are charged with forging a $285,000 check and using the money on a lavish trip to New York City, police said.
Alexa Johzen Polar, 34, and Robin Antonella Pabello, 33, roommates from Garden Grove, Calif., are accused of taking the check from the law firm where Polar works and using the money to fly their friends to New York on a private jet. The pair allegedly rented five rooms at a hotel in Times Square and went on a shopping spree on Fifth Avenue, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.
Prosecutors said the women also put down $233,000 on a $3.7 million house in Murrieta, Calif.
Cypress Police Detective Greg Faessel told the newspaper the women were deeply in debt and wanted to "enjoy life without any cares for a while."
