Report: Nick Lachey asks Vanessa Minnillo's dad for OK to propose

By Christopher Rocchio, 02/27/2007

Apparently anticipating a more traditional marriage then the one he had with former Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica co-star Jessica Simpson, Nick Lachey has reportedly asked Vanessa Minnillo's father Vince for his daughter's hand in marriage.

"Nick had such a troubled relationship with his ex-father-in-law, Joe Simpson, that he's determined to make sure he has a great relationship with Vanessa's dad," a friend of Lachey's told OK! Weekly in the magazine's March 5 issue.

Lachey co-starred with Simpson in Newlyweds, the couple's own MTV reality series -- almost immediately following their October 2002 wedding.  After they separated in November 2005 amidst various rumors they had already lost interest in each other, the couple eventually filed for divorce

Lachey was seen shortly thereafter with another MTV reality show personality -- Laguna Beach star Kristin Cavallari -- but has since settled down with Minnillo following a June 2006 meeting at Toronto's MuchMusic Video Awards.

The 33-year-old Lachey and 26-year-old Minnillo have yet to announce if they are engaged.  OK! also reported that Minnillo is currently renegotiating her contract with MTV and Entertainment Tonight so she can be based out of Los Angeles instead of New York "to be closer to her boyfriend."
