ABC's Emmy-winning U.S. television series "Lost" will move to 10 p.m. when it returns next year so as not to go head-to-head against Fox's "American Idol."

Daily Variety reported on Wednesday that when "Lost" returns with its new episodes starting Feb. 7, it would not have to compete with Fox's "Idol," which has become a cultural sensation.

This is the third time slot for "Lost" in as many years; however ABC learned a lesson a year ago when its highly rated series was unceremoniously knocked off its ratings perch when "Idol" showed up.

Daily Variety opined that the network affiliates "should be happy" with the lineup shift, particularly with "Lost" providing a solid audience leading into the local 11 p.m. newscasts.
