Nursery school owner blames 'Supernanny' for child abuse charges

UPI News Service, 09/16/2006

A British nursery school owner may have gotten carried away in emulating the "Supernanny's" discipline methods involving a toddler and the "naughty chair."

Olive Rack, owner of the Children and Young People's Service in Northamptonshire, England, blamed her current legal troubles on Jo Frost, known on her popular television show as the "Supernanny," The Independent reported.

Rack, 56, is currently on trial in magistrates' court accused of having "physical contact" with a 2-year-old girl who she is being accused of dragging to the chair and hitting on the head with a plastic toy. Physical contact with children in a daycare setting is banned in Ofsted, the town where the alleged incident took place.

Rack has denied the charges.

Northamptonshire police brought the charges against the woman after the child's parents refused to press charges in the July incident that left the child unharmed but "frightened and in tears," the report said.
