New York police rescue wayward duck from subway tracks

UPI News Service, 03/20/2017

New York police responded to a Brooklyn subway station to rescue a wayward duck that wandered onto the tracks and refused to make way for trains.

The New York Police Department's Transit Bureau said officers responded about 9:20 a.m. Friday to the Jefferson St. station in Bushwick, where they found the duck wallowing in a pool of dirty water on the L line tracks.

The officers summoned Emergency Services Officers Kevin Conway and Michael Black, who climbed down to the tracks while officials temporarily suspended train access to the station.

The officers were able to corral the duck and a video tweeted by transit officers shows the mallard being carried out of the station.

"Sick of the snow & too tired to fly, Bklyn duck tries taking #Ltrain south for warmer air," the tweet said.

Transit Bureau Chief Joseph Fox tweeted a video of the duck being released in Brooklyn's Highland Park.

"Ducked our cops at Jefferson St, nearly roasted by the L train, apprehension went swimmingly, we'll add the return trip to his bill..." Fox joked in the pun-filled Twitter post.
