MTV has formally announced that Port will star in The City, a new reality series that will follow Port as she travels from Los Angeles to New York City and tries to stake her claim in the fashion industry while also making new friends and pursuing a love life.

"I am thrilled and honored to be in New York City, not only working for one of the most renowned fashion designers, Diane Von Furstenberg, but to be able to mature as a young woman both professionally and personally," Port said.

The City -- which is set to premiere in early 2009 and was first reported to be in development back in June -- will be the first spinoff of The Hills, which was itself a spinoff of the network's Laguna Beach reality series.

Port befriended Conrad when the former Laguna Beach star moved to Los Angeles upon graduating high school. She has since appeared in all four seasons of The Hills

I hope they do the show," Conrad told Us Weekly of Port and her then rumored spinoff back in June. "I think that Whitney will do really well with it. She is a very likable person."
