Married at First Sight star Luke Cuccurullo had an emotional breakdown when he was given a chance to explain his treatment of wife Kate Sisk on Season 8 of the Lifetime reality series.

During a Tuesday night appearance on Married at First Sight: Unfiltered, which is hosted by Jamie Otis, Luke watched back a clip of his mother asking Kate how she would feel if her relationship with Luke didn't work out as she had hoped it would.

Kate admitted Luke's mother was acting as if her marriage had already ended, and so she thought to herself, "If nobody thinks this is going to work out, why are we even talking about this anymore?"

Kate appeared deflated and depressed in the footage, saying she put all of her effort into the marriage but her expectations weren't being met.

Luke then started to cry on Unfiltered and told Jamie, "My mom knows pretty much what is going on at all time."

"I think it's very telling if you are chatting with your mom every day and she feels like the marriage is at its end," Jamie pointed out, adding that this conversation went down after Luke had already expressed he's not physically attracted to Kate.

"This was -- I don't know. I went in so hopeful but it was just not what you'd expect," Luke said, choking up.

Jamie admitted it didn't make Luke look good when he delivered "blow after blow after blow" to Kate -- which included accusing her of drinking too much.

Luke emotionally lamented, "It's fine," but Jamie said it wasn't okay because he was failing to take advantage of an opportunity to express his feelings.

"Explain your side and share with us, because you're not a terrible dude," Jamie told Luke.

"I don't know, I feel I'm fine taking that on though -- like I'm not fine, but I've accepted that role and it's okay and we can just move on," Luke explained.

Married at First Sight expert, Dr. Jessica Griffin, and Luke's co-star, Kristine Killingsworth, were also present for the tense and awkward conversation on Unfiltered.

"But Luke, you don't have to be a villain," Dr. Jessica insisted.

"I know," Luke replied while trying his best to stay composed.

Dr. Jessica pointed out that Luke didn't have to discuss anything he was uncomfortable with, adding, "You don't have to take that role on. You are not a bad guy."

"I know. I know that, my friends know that, my family knows that, but it doesn't matter," Luke said.

Dr. Jessica, however, said Luke was accepting the villain role on Unfiltered and he didn't need to.

Luke then reached for his drink, took a sip, and said nothing in reply.

"Just clean it up now," Kristine suggested.

"Clean up what though?" Luke asked her.

"Clean it up. Tell your side because no one understands why you were saying one thing and acting in a completely different way once the cameras were gone," Kristine noted.

One instance Kristine seemed to be referring to was when Luke told Kate their first post-wedding kiss was "repulsive" and made him feel "dead inside." Although fans did not see Luke say that on tape, Kate vented about the situation once cameras started rolling again.

"What the hell were you doing?" Kristine asked.

"I don't know," Luke admitted. "I don't know."

Jamie then asked Luke what was going through his mind when he told Kate that he was feeling dead inside and repulsed after kissing her.

Luke laughed nervously, prompting Jamie to push, "Explain that to us, because honestly, that was the start of the whole downward spiral, and there's got to be a reasonable explanation."

Luke appeared to be on the verge of tears as Jamie probed for answers, and he continued to laugh nervously while playing with his hands and looking at Dr. Jessica for backup.

"You can answer what you're comfortable with," Dr. Jessica said.

Luke sighed a breath of relief and said, "Okay," before asking to take a break.

Dr. Jessica pointed out he could take a break or they could just move on from the subject entirely.

Luke then chose to step out of the room, and Dr. Jessica could be heard saying, "My heart is breaking," as he walked out.

Dr. Jessica also subsequently left the room to talk to Luke and make sure he was doing alright backstage.

The segment concluded with Jamie cutting to a commercial break so Luke would have time to harness his emotions.

Married at First Sight's eighth season also stars Kristine and Keith Dewar, Jasmine McGriff and Will Guess, and AJ Vollmoeller and Stephanie Sersen. The show currently airs on Tuesday nights on Lifetime.
