The 24-year-old star of "Mean Girls" and "Freaky Friday" has battled drug and alcohol addiction in recent years. She is now awaiting trial on a shoplifting charge.
A judge last week sentenced Lohan to 120 days in jail because the theft allegation violated the terms of her probation in a prior driving under the influence case. Her lawyer is appealing the decision.
UsMagazine.com said Lohan made a surprise appearance on Tuesday's edition of "The Tonight Show." The interview was taped Monday night.
During her visit, she told host Jay Leno she found her jail sentence "shocking" and confessed it left her "kind of numb."
"Being young and being in the position I was in, you don't really take the time to appreciate what you have and it's all kind of a whirlwind, and people make decisions for you," UsMagazine.com said she told Leno. "But I'm not a kid anymore -- I'm 24. I've made a lot of mistakes and I recognize that. I'm in the clear now, and as long as I stay focused, I can achieve what I want to achieve."
