A day after "Law & Order" announced Fred Thompson's departure as district attorney, the California-based NBC TV unit said a new detective joined the show.

Jeremy Sisto, who guest-starred on the season finale as a defense attorney, has been promoted to series regular, NBC confirmed Friday to E! News.
"I've watched Jeremy's career evolve and grow and I am absolutely thrilled that he has decided to join Law & Order," creator Dick Wolf said in a statement.
No details have been released about the role to be played by the one-time "Six Feet Under" star. He is expected to fill the void left by Milena Govich, who played Detective Nina Cassady for two seasons, and partner with Detective Ed Green, played for eight years by Jesse L. Martin.
New assistant district attorneys, meanwhile, reportedly fill the void left by Sam Waterson's Jack McCoy, who is expected to be promoted to the corner office now that Thompson's District Attorney Arthur Branch is quitting.
