FOX officially announces that 'The Simple Life' will return

By Reality TV World staff, 02/10/2004

A couple of weeks after Paris Hilton already revealed the second season's premise and Bunim-Murray announced upcoming casting calls, FOX has finally gotten around to announcing one of the worst kept "secrets" in Hollywood -- that Paris and Nicole Richie's The Simple Life will return for a second season.

As previously reported, The Simple Life 2 will follow “celebutantes” and best friends Paris and Nicole as they pack up their Louis Vuitton bags again -- only this time, it will be for the ultimate cross-country road trip. "It'll be a cross-country road trip where they travel from town to town and go from family to family," FOX reality programming executive Mike Darnell told Daily Variety. "The show can be a different experience in every episode."

While describing the show as a cross between the National Lampoon's Vacation films and Bunim-Murray's own long-running MTV Road Rules hit, Darnell says a firm decision on whether Hilton and Richie will actually travel by RV has not yet been made.

The only surprise in the announcement is, that according to Variety, FOX is expected to begin broadcasting the second season in May 2004 -- which will require that the anticipated month-long filming process begin in March.

Given the extremely short production timeframe, Bunim-Murray Productions' nationwide search for all-American families to play host to Paris and Nicole is set to begin on Saturday, February 14 and will continue throughout the month. Additional casting information and requirements are available on bunim-murray.com.

Eight to ten episodes are expected to be produced initially, although, as with the first season, there's always the chance of Bunim-Murray scrapping together enough cutting room floor material for an additional "lost" episode or two.

So far, Bunim-Murray has announced the following upcoming casting calls:

Saturday, February 14 - Grand Canyon Village, AZ
Grand Canyon Squire Inn - 10AM-5PM
Highway 64
Grand Canyon, AZ 86023

Saturday, February 14 - Brooksville, FL
Hernando County Fairground - 10AM-5PM
The Family Living Building
6436 Broad Street
Brooksville, FL 34601
(Entrance at Oliver Street)

Tuesday, February 17 - Lafayette, LA
The Holiday Inn: Holidome - 11AM-7PM
2032 N.E. Evangeline Thruway
Lafayette, LA 70501
