John Costelloe's big-screen credits include "Manhattan Murder Mystery,""Die Hard 2" and "Doubt." He is perhaps best known for playing Jim "Johnny Cakes" Witowski, a short-order cook who was the love interest of gay mobster Vito Spatafore during the 2006 season of "The Sopranos." TMZ said Costelloe was also a former New York City firefighter.
New York One quoted police as saying the actor was found dead in his Brooklyn apartment last week of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Joseph Gannascoli, who played Spatafore on "The Sopranos," told the New York Post he was "shocked" to hear about Costelloe's death.
"It still hasn't really sunk in," Gannascoli told the newspaper. "I never detected anything troubling about him. I enjoyed all the time I ever spent with him."
