Former "American Idol" finalist Kellie Pickler says nothing compares to when she first heard her debut single played on the radio in the Atlanta area.

Pickler, on tour with other Idol finalists, caught word that "Red High Heels" would be played, the New York Post said Monday. When she heard it over the airwaves, she said she and the others cried.

Pickler's new song, released last Wednesday, is the first cut from her new album, "Small Town Girl," expected to debut on Halloween. She has been performing on a national "American Idol" tour.

The tour, Pickler said, has made it difficult for her to reconnect with her dad, Clyde "Bo" Pickler Jr., who was jailed in 2003 for stabbing a man and hadn't spoken to his daughter in years, the Post said. He was released last May and reunited with Pickler a few days after she became a finalist.

Pickler said she plans to spend time with her father when the tour ends in late September, the newspaper said.
