The show premiered Oct. 14 and has put the spotlight back on the 1990s pop icon Vanilla Ice, whose real name is Robert Van Winkle.

The first season of the 10-episode series follows the former rapper as he attempts to renovate a six-bedroom, five-bathroom, 7,000 square-foot lakefront home in Florida.

"Rob's home-improvement knowledge has been an unexpected surprise for many of our viewers," Andy Singer, DIY Network's general manager, said in a statement Tuesday.

"He not only has skills important to DIY Network, Rob resonates with our audience. We are thrilled to continue working with him."

Best-known for his chart-topping hit "Ice Ice Baby," Van Winkle turned his focus on a new hobby, buying land and flipping houses after his hip-hop career stalled. He's renovated old homes and foreclosures and taught himself the basics through hands-on experience and a lot of research, DIY noted in the release.

The Season 1 finale of "The Vanilla Ice Project" is to air on the network Dec.16.
