The BMX bike legend died of apparent suicide at age 41, People reported.

Mirra's body was reportedly discovered in his truck sitting in a friend's driveway in Greenville, NC, on Thursday. He had a gunshot wound in the head that was allegedly self-inflicted.

"We have been able to determine Mirra's own gun was used and all preliminary findings of the medical examiner on-scene point to suicide," police said in a statement obtained by People.

He apparently shot himself just after visiting with friends and a pal found him dead in the car.

"Suicide is a personal matter and we intend to keep it that way," police added in the statement.

"It's clear Dave struggled with internal demons -- tragically, to the point where he chose to take his own life. It is our job now, not just as law enforcement, but as a community, to provide the support and resources necessary to help his family and friends get through this."

"I just wish he would have called me," Mirra's good friend and fellow BMX pro T.J. Lavin told TMZ. "I would have jumped on a plane in a second. There's always another way. If anyone needs help, just please get it. I feel sick about this."

Mirra's death is currently under investigation. He is survived by a wife and two children. MTV has sent its deepest condolences to his friends and family.

Real World/Road Rules Challenge was called Road Rules: All Stars for its first season when the series premiered in Summer 1998. It was later called The Challenge when Season 19 aired.
