Blythe Danner to guest star on NBC's 'Medium' drama

U.S. actress Blythe Danner is to guest star on the supernatural TV drama "Medium," NBC announced.

The Emmy- and Tony Award-winning actress, who is also Gwyneth Paltrow's mom, is to play Sarah Leaming, "a local councilman's wife and mother to a missing private nurse, whose extraordinary dedication to her chronically ill stepdaughter's care led to some unconventional measures."

The casting decision was announced Thursday by executive producer Glenn Gordon Caron.

"Continuing a tradition of asking world-class actresses to come join us on 'Medium,' I am thrilled to announce that Blythe Danner will appear in one of the early episodes of Season 5," Caron said in a statement. "I have seen her work at Williamstown, on the Broadway stage, as well as on film and television and to finally have the opportunity to actually work with her is a real honor for me and an exhilarating treat for the cast."

Danner has appeared on the TV shows "Will and Grace" and "Huff." Her film credits include "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2," "Meet the Parents," "Meet the Fockers," "Sylvia," "The Great Santini" and "The Prince of Tides."
