'American Idol 1' finalist Jim Verraros to release new album this month

Former "American Idol" contender Jim Verraros, who made it into the top 10 of the first season, has announced he will release his first album this month.

Verraros said his TV image was very "Midwestern," but he's changed since then, the New York Post reported. He describes his album, "Rollercoaster," as a cross between George Michael and Justin Timberlake.
"I like standing out from the crowd, and I thought it would be really cool to see how people would react to such a crazy change," Verraros said. "That way I can kind of start over and not be 'that guy from American Idol.' "
His album is being released by independent label Koch.
