Adam Lambert: Pre-'Idol' album "in no way reflects" his music

By Christopher Rocchio, 06/22/2009

Adam Lambert is unhappy that an album featuring songs he recorded pre-American Idol will be available to the public.

Hi Fi Recordings and Wilshire Records announced on Friday plans to release songs recorded by the Idol eighth-season runner-up prior to his appearance on the Fox mega-hit.  Titled "On with the Show," the album is slated to be released this summer.

However Lambert said in a statement released late Friday that he doesn't want fans to get the wrong impression of his music by listening to "On with the Show."

"Back in 2005, when I was a struggling artist, I was hired as a studio singer to lend my vocals to tracks written by someone else," said Lambert in the statement, which was obtained by MTV News.

"I was broke at the time and this was my chance to make a few bucks, so I jumped at the opportunity to record for my first time in a professional studio. The work I did back then in no way reflects the music I am currently in the studio working on. I'm thrilled to be working with some of today's hottest songwriters and producers and can't wait for people to hear what my music really sounds like."

"Want" -- the first single from "On with the Show" -- premiered Friday afternoon on Perez Hilton's website and was initially believed to be the first single from Lambert's recording contract with 19 Recordings/RCA Records, which he inked after being defeated by Kris Allen during last month's Idol eighth-season finale.

However a spokesperson for 19 Entertainment told MTV News that Hilton's post contained "false information."

Lambert co-wrote "many of the tracks" included on "On with the Show," according to a Hi Fi Recordings press release, which added it is an "album of fantastic, diverse material."

"Recorded over the course of 2007/2008, right before Lambert's meteoric rise to prominence, these recent recordings from his partnership with Wilshire, an LA-based production and publishing company, are drenched in his signature pop/rock sound and style," reads the Hi Fi Recordings release.

"As America would expect, the music is amazing -- get ready for more!"

Neither Lambert, RCA nor 19 Entertainment plan on attempting to block the release of "On With the Show," MTV News reported.  Lambert's RCA/19Recordings debut is scheduled to drop this fall.
