John Cena returned to his hometown of Boston, where he was confronted by "Dirty" Dominik Mysterio on WWE Raw.
Mysterio was forced to defend his Intercontinental Championship as well against Cena. Mysterio also currently holds the AAA Mega Championship from Mexico.
"Dirty" Dom dominated the early parts of the match after he was able to throw Cena into the steel steps outside the ring. Mysterio later countered two Attitude Adjustments by Cena and distracted the referee by messing with the turnbuckle.
Mysterio, as the referee checked out the turnbuckle, grabbed a steel chair and tried to make it look like Cena had hit him with the weapon, a nod to the late, great Eddie Guerrero.
Cena, realizing what Mysterio was doing, turned the tables by also laying down as if he had been attacked by the chair. Cena was later able to make Mysterio tap out to his STF submission hold, but the referee had been knocked out of the ring.Mysterio also tried to unsuccessfully use the Interceptional title as a weapon and even landed a 619 on Cena.
Mysterio went for a Frog Splash from the top rope but Cena used his strength to pick up Mysterio and slam him down with an Attitude Adjustment to win the wild match and the Intercontinental Championship.
