Now that Joey has eliminated 10 hopefuls, his journey to find love is going to become more serious.

And according to The Bachelor star and tennis pro, he had a specific approach for deciding who would accompany him on one-on-one dates during filming.

"For me, the one-on-one was not, 'I need to get to know you and see more.' It was, 'I've already felt something and I'm really excited to see if it's as strong as I think it is,'" Joey told People after his season debuted.

"It wasn't like a discovery. It was, 'We have created enough of a connection that it's really time to test it and see if it's as great as I've felt.'"

Joey said he "really tried to be smart" about his one-on-one dates in order to not waste any time. While Joey didn't want to waste his precious solo dates, he also apparently didn't want to falsely lead any of the women on.

"I didn't want to go in and have a make-or-break date," Joey said. "I want almost like a confirmation that what I'm feeling was correct."

And Joey also adopted a similar approach for his overnight Fantasy Suite dates.

"I think Fantasy Suites are a huge part of this whole process, mainly because it's just uninterrupted time," Joey shared. "You get to really have deep conversations, you get to learn more about them."

Joey -- who worked in Hawaii prior to The Bachelor but is currently living in his sister's house in Pennsylvania -- was shown giving his First Impression Rose to Lea Cayanan after she decided to throw her special advantage in the fire.

Lea felt it wouldn't be fair to steal another woman's one-on-one date and she wanted her relationship with Joey to grow authentically and organically.

"Lea did a great job handling, I think a very tough situation," Joey told the magazine, adding how she carried herself with "grace" and poise.

"I think it showed a lot about her character and she did the best job she could. I could tell that it was making her emotional. I was very impressed by her character. It was a tough spot and I think that what that rose meant to me was not only telling her how impressed I was with her handling a difficult situation, but it was signifying that I want to learn more."

Joey also saw sparks with Jessica "Jess" Edwards and Daisy Kent.

Joey shared of Jess, "She's someone I could see building a life with, 100 percent," and he said of Jenn Tran that he "definitely felt a bit of a spark" with her.

And Joey called Daisy "gorgeous" and said he was "blown away" by her beauty when she stepped out of her Christmas tree truck.

"She has this soft spoken demeanor that pulls you in and is captivating. I'm drawn to it and I want to know so much more," Joey noted.

Joey also thought Kelsey Anderson looked "unbelievable" at the first cocktail party of the season.

"There's just this honest chemistry and connection that we have," Joey shared of Kelsey A. "There is something about Kelsey that is very striking to me. Little Joey, you just met a very pretty girl!"

In addition, Joey found himself very attracted to Alexandra "Lexi" Young.

"Her maturity is so captivating. She's a bright light, and I love how special she makes me feel. I really do feel that she's here not only for an engagement, but for me!" Joey explained.

At the first Rose Ceremony of Joey's season, The Bachelor star eliminated Chandler Dewgard, Eleni "Lanie" Latsios, Kayla Rodgers, Kyra Brusch, Natalie "Nat" Crepeau, Samantha "Sam" Hale, Samantha Washington, Sandra Rabadi, Talyah Jackson, and Zoe Antona.
