The Bachelor has released the names and photos of the 33 bachelorettes who may be competing on the show's 24th season before it has even officially announced The Bachelor star himself.

ABC surprised The Bachelor fans by announcing the 33 bachelorettes who "may" be competing for the Bachelor's heart when Season 24 reportedly starts filming this weekend on The Bachelor's official Facebook page early Tuesday morning.

"We are giving you an early look at the women who may be on #TheBachelor. Leave a [rose emoji] for who would get your first impression rose and find out who the next Bachelor is tonight during #BachelorInParadise!" the network wrote on its The Bachelor page along with photos of all the prospective bachelorettes.

The inclusion of the word "may" suggests a few of the 33 women -- which would be a slightly larger group of bachelorettes than the show typically starts with -- may not actually end up appearing on Season 24 of The Bachelor, which will premiere in January 2020 on ABC.

ABC took the same approach for The Bachelorette's fifteenth season earlier this year by posting 33 potential suitors and then only choosing 30 to meet Hannah Brown on Night 1.

The Bachelor's next star will officially be announced when Bachelor in Paradise's sixth-season reunion airs on ABC tonight.

However, according to online spoilers from audience members who attended the reunion when it was filmed on August 27, former The Bachelorette bachelor Peter Weber was announced as The Bachelor's next leading man.

Additional reports that Peter had been selected as The Bachelor's next star had also surfaced prior to the reunion's filming.

The leading theory behind starting with a large pool of potential cast members is that ABC is allowing time for dirt to surface on one or more bachelorettes.

If negative news about the women, criminal history, or offensive social-media activity comes to light, The Bachelor producers will have time to weed the bachelorettes out before the season begins filming.

Peter has been considered one of the frontrunners to be selected as The Bachelor's Season 24 star since he was eliminated by Hannah at the Rose Ceremony in which she selected Tyler Cameron and Jed Wyatt as her final two bachelors.

Tyler, who finished as Hannah's runner-up, and Mike Johnson, who was eliminated before hometown dates, had been considered the other two favorites to be selected to star on the next season of The Bachelor.

However, Tyler essentially immediately removed himself from contention when he began a high-profile romance with supermodel Gigi Hadid only days after the finale of Hannah's season of The Bachelorette aired on ABC in late July.

Peter had admitted he would be interested in being the next The Bachelor star after his The Bachelorette ouster aired on ABC in July.

"I know this whole situation didn't work out the way I was hoping, but Hannah truly showed me a different love than I had ever felt," he told People.

"So it's given me hope that I have more love to find. I wouldn't say no to trying it again because I know the experience works. And I'm hopeful that my person is right around the corner."
